Otty Lake Wedding

Upon first meeting, Karson was playing hockey for the Smiths Falls Bears when he saw Sarah walking the track of the area during a game of his. Karson immediately took action to learn more about her and eventually arranged a first date months later. After the date, Sarah called her mother to inform her that she believed she had come to meet her future husband. After 5 years, two houses, raising a son, and planning a future full of adventures together, Sarah and Karson were engaged to be married in 2018, and thus the wedding planning began.

Sarah and Karson knew they wanted a DIY, whimsical, woodland-themed wedding, and in turn, knew it would take time and a lot of energy to accomplish. Karson’s mother offered her lake-front property to host the wedding ceremony and the surrounding farmlands to act as a reception area for those attending. Located on the farmlands was a barn that Karson spent months of his time renovating beautifully inside and out. This would allow their guests to unwind, grab a drink from the constructed bar within and socialize before dinner had been served.

Come June 29, 2019, the wedding day had finally arrived! All of the build-up of hard work and energy that had went into planning and creating pieces came to an end, and peace filled the air. The wedding day itself was calm, woodsy, and of course, full of love. As the day went on, the weather would fluctuate from one extreme to another, from blistering heat to a tornado warning and a rainstorm that would rattle the very reception tents the dinner would be held. However, nothing was going to stand in this couple’s way.

The ceremony was held at Otty Lake in Lanark, Ontario, underneath a tepee arch that Karson hand-built overlooking the water. The reception area consisted of wooden chairs and large rustic dining tables filled with greenery, white and blush florals, and eucalyptus table runners. At the end of each row of tables sat cut tree branches placed in galvanized buckets strung with twinkle lights that added a dreamy ambiance to the table settings. Each dining table included light and refreshing flavours of white Sangria and strawberry Zinfandel which were hand-selected and bottled by Sarah’s immediate family from the Wine Room. The dinner for the evening was catered by The Leatherworks which distributed a delicious roast beef and chicken dinner with a variety of sides. For those that wished to dance the night away was an assortment of sliders which included poutine and pizza prepared by Law and Orders. And dance the night away those guests did, until the break of light on the next morning.
